One of the AMETHyST partner is delighted to share the latest developments regarding their project in the Val de Bagnes, nestled in the Swiss Alps. The municipality of Val de Bagnes is not only interested but deeply committed to exploring the opportunities offered by hydrogen as part of its sustainable development strategy. Specifically, hydrogen is considered a compelling element for decarbonizing the Verbier ski resort, particularly in the areas of snow groomers and snowplow trucks. This is a bold vision that aligns with the overall goal of decarbonizing the resort.
Their recent discussions with stakeholders in the ski lift and transportation sectors have been very promising. Stakeholders have expressed concrete interest in hydrogen and recognized its potential in reducing emissions. Their objective is clear: to transform Verbier into a living example of sustainability by using hydrogen as fuel for snow groomers, buses, and trucks.
Simultaneously, their local industrial partner, Altis, has already begun construction on a solar production zone dedicated to future hydrogen production. This initiative, launched this winter, demonstrates a tangible commitment to an innovative and sustainable energy transition.
Additionally, they have had fruitful meetings with various hydrogen stakeholders in Switzerland, as well as solution manufacturers. These exchanges have allowed them to strengthen their network and expertise in this field.
However, the only element currently hindering progress towards a concrete test is the lack of practical solutions for hydrogen utilization. At present, there are numerous experiments but few commercially viable elements. However, this does not prevent them from laying the groundwork and preparing for future implementation.
Finally, a roundtable gathering all stakeholders in the Val de Bagnes was organized to discuss the energy future of our alpine region. This meeting confirmed the general interest in hydrogen as a potential solution for decarbonizing the resort.
