On June 13th, 2024, the AMETHyST consortium organized the third Exchange Program for companies, public authorities, and experts, focusing on policies and best practices for the deployment of hydrogen applications. This event was held in South Tyrol, Italy, at the headquarters and assembly lines of the innovative company GKN Hydrogen.
The 26 participants from Italy, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia visited GKN Hydrogen to learn about the company’s state-of-the-art hydrogen storage technology. They also toured the nearby farm and tourist accommodation “Arieshof,” where one such storage solution is in operation, aiming to provide maximum energy autonomy.
The day also emphasized networking and exchanges among all participants, facilitated by a round table discussion featuring five experts. They discussed the main barriers to implementation and perspectives on the stationary use of hydrogen in the building sector.
Key recommendations from the discussion included:
- The importance of adapting regulations and ensuring smooth certification processes for hydrogen applications.
- Supporting the growth of all elements of the supply chain in parallel.
- Identifying priorities for the best overall efficiency of hydrogen.
- Supporting pioneers and best practices to demonstrate potential.
The information gathered during the exchange will aid in establishing new networks and facilitate the drafting of policy recommendations for decision-makers.
