This week, we shine a spotlight on ARSO, the Slovenian Environment Agency, DiMark project partner that plays a pivotal role in helping us develop early warning systems to protect and preserve the Alpine lakes, including our pilot lake, Lake Bled.
Who Is ARSO?
ARSO, officially the Slovenian Environment Agency, operates under Slovenia’s Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy. ARSO covers environmental management on a national scale, involving expert analysis, regulatory oversight and administrative tasks.
Driving Policy Change
In the DiMark project, ARSO brings its expertise to the table by providing data, collaborating on analyses, and co-developing advanced tools and models. Beyond technical contributions, ARSO cooperates in national workshops and events to provide valuable policy insights and drive the project’s strategic goals.
ARSO also partners closely with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning, a key DiMark observer. Together, they can help that research and tools from DiMark align with Slovenia’s environmental policy frameworks, such as the River Basin Management Plan (RBMP) and the Programmes of Measures (PoM).
These plans are vital for protecting Slovenia’s water resources. The RBMP outlines strategies for sustainable water use and ecological preservation, while the PoM details actionable steps to tackle water quality challenges.
Slovenia’s adoption of its third RBMP and PoM in 2023 provides a timely opportunity for DiMark to make an impact. With ARSO’s contributions, we aim to strengthen efforts to improve the ecological health of our key Lake Bled.
ARSO’s work demonstrates the power of collaboration between science, policy and local action.
