Open Day Highlights the Transformation of Muggia Industrial Park into an Eco-Industrial Hub

On September 26, 2024, the Confartigianato headquarters in Muggia (Trieste) hosted the first open day dedicated to the ambitious transformation of the local industrial park into a model of sustainability and circular economy. The event was marked by institutional greetings, insightful presentations, and engaging discussions among industry experts, companies, and public institutions.

Institutional Greetings and Strategic Vision

The open day commenced with welcoming speeches from the mayor of Muggia, the president of Confartigianato Trieste, and representatives of the Confindustria Energy Consortium. These addresses underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving carbon neutrality and emphasized the potential of innovative solutions to reduce pollution and energy consumption within the industrial park.

Pioneering Platforms for Sustainable Development

COSELAG, the entity spearheading the park’s transformation, presented its ongoing work and unveiled two groundbreaking platforms designed to support the transition toward an eco-industrial park.

  1. Environmental Data Collection Platform: Developed in collaboration with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, this platform will gather environmental data from tenant companies. The collected data will be instrumental in monitoring and enhancing the park’s sustainability efforts.
  2. Circular Economy Database Platform: Created as part of the ECOLE project, this platform organizes data within a centralized database, enabling tenants to identify and utilize by-products and waste from other companies. The platform facilitates the sharing of energy demands and the reuse of materials, fostering a circular economy within the Consortium area.

Interactive Sessions and Stakeholder Engagement

The open day included detailed demonstrations of the platforms’ functionalities. Stakeholders were shown how the tools would collect data, assist in resource sharing, and promote sustainable practices. Attendees had the opportunity to discuss challenges and opportunities associated with the transition to a zero-emission future, benefiting from the insights of industry professionals and policy makers.

Positive Feedback and Encouraging Outcomes

Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting a strong interest in the presented initiatives. The event successfully raised awareness about the industrial park’s short-, medium-, and long-term sustainability goals and demonstrated how the platforms will support tenants in adopting greener practices.

A Vision for a Greener Future

The open day not only showcased COSELAG’s commitment to sustainability but also reinforced the collective determination of stakeholders to achieve a more circular and environmentally sustainable economy. By leveraging innovative platforms and fostering collaboration, the Muggia industrial park is poised to become a benchmark for eco-industrial practices in the region.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and optimism, paving the way for continued progress toward a sustainable future.
