ALPGRIDS at the EU Sustainable Energy Week

Jun 16, 2024

The EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) took place on 11-13 June in Brussels. For three days, more than 10 000 participants from all over Europe gathered to discuss, among others, energy efficiency, competitiveness and decarbonisation.

Key take aways form these days were the importance of financing a sustainable energy transition, reducing depending from countries outside the EU and ensuring a competitive Europe in the world.

The ALPGRIDS project

The Interreg Alpine Space project ALPGRIDS was among the Interreg projects presented during the EUSEW. The project aimed at developing European microgrids, which are systems that can operate independently or connected to the main grid. Microgrids enable local energy production, ensuring energy consistency for the citizens as well as reducing price volatility. The project was implement in seven pilot areas, developing and replicating smart grids in five European countries of the Alpine region (DE, AT, FR, IT, SI). This experience was shared in other territories through bilateral exchanges, summer school programm. Furthermore, local energy communities emerged around the project, involving citizen in collective actions around energy production.
