Joint brochure – Transnational cooperation programmes: a unique asset for the European Union

Mar 21, 2025

For over 25 years, Interreg transnational programmes have been at the forefront of addressing Europe’s most pressing socio-economic, environmental, and societal challenges. By fostering collaboration across large territories and sea basins, Interreg transnational cooperation programmes bring together national, regional, and local partners from both EU Member States and non-EU countries, tackling issues that transcend national borders.

As firm believers in the transformative power of transnational cooperation, 13 Transnational Interreg Programmes, including Interreg Alpine Space, have joined forces to publish a new brochure that showcases the added value of these programmes. With the support of Interact, this initiative reinforces the crucial role transnational cooperation plays in creating a more united and sustainable Europe.

Why Transnational Cooperation Matters

This brochure highlights three key reasons why strengthening transnational cooperation is essential:

Solidarity beyond borders – By connecting regions and people, we reinforce European integration and work together to overcome shared challenges.

Synergies for all territories – Through resource-sharing, knowledge exchange, and cross-sector collaboration, we create innovative solutions that go beyond national limitations.

Delivering change – Transnational cooperation is a driver of the green and digital transitions, supporting practical, real-world solutions for a more sustainable and connected future.

Showcasing Real-World Impact

The brochure features inspiring examples of Interreg projects, including BeyondSnow, which illustrates how cooperation fuels transformation. These projects demonstrate how working together across borders leads to stronger, more resilient territories.
