The problem of air pollution has become a global emergency which all governments of the world are trying to cope with, fielding tools and methods that already lie ahead totally inadequate. Main priorities, also emerged since the Climate Conference held in Paris in December 2015, are the rapid shift to electric mobility and to the use of renewable energy sources. The weak point that slows this step is the lack of infrastructures to support the shift to electric mobility and renewable energy diffusion, whose spread is a very long process, moreover hampered by the slow pace of political decisions, by the high costs and the global economic crisis. Hence the project mission is to facilitate the development of such infrastructures activating a supportive network of charging points, self-managed through a geolocalized app which every citizen can participate in as a supplier (even with a domestic electrical outlet) or as a driver of an electric vehicle. The app will present other services/products connected to the electric mobility area, in the frame of the sharing economy model. This task will be reached with the development of a low-cost device easy to fit in any building, suitable to create micro smart grids to optimize electric energy consumption in buildings and to connect with the described app, in order to make it available private charging points and many further services.
Description of activities
The People Share the Power (PSP) project aims to develop an IoT (Internet of Things) hardware/software system, perfectly integrated within a modular building component that will allow the building not only to interface and integrate with the electricity grid, acting as a microgrid hub with concerned utilities concerned, but also to be a shared charging point for electric vehicles. A system building component/device will be created for electric mobility, a scalable prototype, for a wider use and sectors through the implementation of integration strategies, prepared for the future smart grid and for the exploitation of the renewable energy used in the building and the reduced recourse to the electricity grid, in the frame of NZEB (Nearly Zero energy building). An important contribution to the micro smart grids network will be given by: private houses, building Administrators, Shopping Centers, Restaurants, B&B, Hotels, Sport Facilities, Cinemas, Beauty Centers, Golf Clubs, Resorts, Garages, Repair shops and Workshops, Companies with driveways and parking spaces, Car sharing companies and other companies that can yield services and/or products during the charging time. Public buildings (offices, schools, universities, car and bike station in public areas, etc). The project expects a rapid increase in the number of charging points on the territory on the basis of a suitable viral mechanism to activate the contribution of citizenship. The app will receive income via freemium registrations and advertising. Value-added markets during the recharge time are forecast. Many commercial channels will be used to enhance the app visibility: web, social networks, web (and not only) viral mechanisms: word of mouth, direct vision, visibility through the commercial realities associated with the PSP service.
The main objective of the project is to i) reduce the carbon footprint in Alpine Space and ii) strengthen citizen collaboration via a social network framework for the diffusion of low-carbon attitude and mobility all through Alpine Space. An innovative model of exploitation of the integrated product (device + platform) will be implemented through the involvement of the stakeholders of the entire value chain. Advertising fees will be used to cover installation costs. The system will be able to fit into both condominium and neighborhood vehicle sharing contexts, determining new availability for electrical-based proximity services. An important objective of the device is to ensure the widespread presence in the territory of new shared charging points for electric vehicles integrated at urban level, in spaces generally for private or limited use.
