As part of the Cradle-ALP project, we have launched pilot actions aimed at exploring and testing the implementation of Cradle to Cradle (C2C) approaches in collaboration with businesses. The objective of these pilot activities is to assess the feasibility of these methods in real-world settings and develop concrete models for the transition to a circular economy. To ensure a comprehensive and effective approach to sustainable transformation, we are working closely with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), policymakers, and researchers.
On February 24, 2025, an innovative workshop took place in Linz, hosted by Business Upper Austria in cooperation with Chemiecluster Bayern. Using the Lego Serious Play (LSP) method, participants explored solutions to the challenge of sustainable plastic packaging in a playful yet serious way.
LSP is a structured approach that uses Lego bricks to visualize complex problems, enabling participants to gain new perspectives, improve communication, and develop innovative solutions.
Under the topic “Closing the loop: Sustainable plastic packaging production in the Alpine region”, Bavarian and Austrian companies worked together to find practical solutions and cross-border cooperation opportunities for a stable regional value chain.
Key questions included:
- What are the main challenges in building a regional value chain for sustainable plastic packaging?
- Where are the “gaps” in the loop?
- How can we close them to create a circular economy?
By applying the LSP method, participants developed new perspectives on existing challenges and co-created hands-on solutions. In addition to working on sustainability topics, the workshop provided an excellent opportunity for networking, allowing attendees to exchange ideas and build valuable connections across industries and borders.
The workshop, as a part of the piloting of the Cradle-ALP transformation toolbox, demonstrated how innovative methods can tackle sustainability issues, fostering collaboration and innovation in the field of plastic packaging.
