The “Curiositas Food Waste Event” took place at the Fachhochschule Salzburg, with inspiring speakers and passionate participants coming together to address the pressing issue of food waste. The event featured two remarkable presentations that showcased innovative approaches to reducing waste and fostering sustainable practices.
Fairteiler: Innovative Solutions for Reusing Discarded Goods
Fairteiler, the winners of a student idea competition at FH Salzburg, introduced their modular “FairteilBar” concept: The students collect expired but still edible food, along with unwanted clothing and other consumer goods, and offer them for free. The modular FairteilBar, designed for ease of assembly and simplicity is affordable at roughly €200 per module. The team emphasised the significance of reducing household food waste, which accounts for 59 % (around 6.5 tons) of all food waste. Attendees responded enthusiastically, expressing strong interest in this practical, community-driven initiative.
Raphael Fellmer: Insights from a Sustainability Pioneer
Raphael Fellmer, a leading advocate for sustainable living and founder of Foodsharing, delivered an inspiring keynote. Drawing from his extensive experience, he highlighted practical approaches to minimizing waste and creating a culture of resource-sharing. His insights shed light on the broader social and environmental benefits of conscious consumption, offering the audience actionable strategies to make sustainable choices in their daily lives.
Finally, the Interreg Alpine Space CEFoodCycle project was presented at the event, and brochures were shared with the attendees.
