A Unique Setting for Sustainability Discussions

On October 9, 2024, COSELAG hosted its second open day at the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region’s Headquarters in Trieste, aligning with the Barcolana Sea Summit. Part of the world-renowned Barcolana sailing race—the largest in the world—the event brought together stakeholders to discuss sustainability under the theme “Positive Energies: New Ideas and Strategies for the Sustainability of Territories.”

Opening Remarks and Sports Initiatives

The open day began with greetings from the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region’s Councillor for the Environment and Energy and the Mayor of Trieste, highlighting the importance of local efforts in environmental protection. The first session focused on sustainability in sports, featuring green initiatives by Udinese Calcio, Pallacanestro Trieste, and British American Tobacco Italia S.p.A., which achieved carbon neutrality through solar energy use. Barcolana organizers also introduced the “Decalogue of Sustainability,” emphasizing waste management and ecological accountability during the event.

Highlighting Industrial Innovation

In the second session, COSELAG presented its Net Zero project and the ECOLE platform, a tool designed to facilitate circular economy practices through data collection and resource sharing. Engineering partners Capgemini and Justonearth provided insights into the transformation of the industrial park into a model eco-industrial zone, highlighting its potential as a replicable best practice.

Positive Feedback and Future Vision

The event concluded with positive feedback from participants, including industry experts and local institutions, who emphasized the value of collaboration in achieving a sustainable future. The open day underscored COSELAG’s commitment to harmonizing industrial development with regional green initiatives, advancing the vision of a net-zero, circular economy.
