On 18th September, the final event of FRACTAL in the beautiful location of Bled Lake, in Slovenia, started with a hands-on morning engaging 40 students who, after having gathered information from the experts of NIB built a pollinator hotel in front of the Infocenter Triglavska roža, where the headquarters of the Triglav National Park is located.
In the evening the Project Partners had a tour through the surroundings of the Bled Lake and visited the GI arrangements, still in progress, of one of the info centres near Bohjini. The space for herbs, vegetables and plants that attract pollinators is nearing completion, and to make it sustainable, it will be maintained by the local community over the next few years.
On the 19th of September, the morning was highly participated in by the local stakeholders, who were willing to participate in the change process. Mojca Pintar from the TNP moderated the event, explaining the main results and the main products of FRACTAL together with Mita Drius, representing the Lead Partner unibz. The Keynote speaker dr. Lučka Kajfež Bogataj explained the major climate-related challenges that we are going to face in Europe and how small-scale projects of Green Infrastructure could help cope with such challenges. Moreover, the mayor of Bled and other local stakeholders signed the GI Pact, engaging themselves in putting in place simple GI projects and initiatives in the future (like, for instance, to reduce mowing during spring to allow pollinators to feed and flowers to produce seeds. It was a successful event and we hope that these first steps towards the local implementation of GI will be followed by others!
