Together with around 20 experts from public institutions and research organisations, GOVQoL partners (University of Ljubljana, Alliance in the Alps, Politicnico di Torino, CIPRA France) met online to discuss the topic of quality of life in the Alpine region during an open kick-off meeting! After a brief introduction to the project and the expected impacts the partners hope to achieve by Naja Marot, project coordinator, the observers were invited to discuss with the partners and share their experience and point of view with all the participants.
💡What does Quality of life mean for the observers ?
🔸 access to services of general interest including cultural and health services
🔸… and especially : transport & mobility !
🔸 proximity to a pristine natural environment
🔸 citizen participation – including youth participation, as already going on within the EUSALP youth council
🔎 Which policies are currently tackling quality of life?
Quality of life doesn’t seemed to be tackled directly so far in local policies, or indirectly via spatial planning or via health policies. This will be checked in the research during the project. Depending on the Alpine countries, different experiences and initiatives are ongoing, such as ‘youth proofing’ in the French Alpine Committee but there is still a long way to go to make it concrete.
🚶♀️➡️Who are the stakeholders to involve when discussing local governance?
🔸 Civil society – but there was a lot of discussion about the question « To what extent are particpatory processes efficient? »
🔸NGOs
🔸Municipalities (i.e. technical officers and elected representatives)
🔸LEADER Local Action Groups
