Innovative Hydrogen-Powered Transport Experiment for Sustainable Mobility in the Mountains

Feb 25, 2025

From 13th until 25th February, 2025, the Pays d’Évian – Vallée d’Abondance Community of Communes (CCPEVA) is testing hydrogen-powered buses and coaches to explore their potential in decarbonizing transport in mountainous regions.

This pilot project, supported by AURA EE and Tenerrdis through AMETHyST, aims to explore innovative hydrogen solutions to meet the unique transportation needs of alpine areas, ensure zero emissions and efficient travel in challenging terrains.

A Pioneer Approach Backed by In-Depth Research
This initiative is based on comprehensive studies that demonstrate hydrogen’s potential as a solution perfectly suited to the constraints of mountainous territories.

Key advantages of hydrogen in these environments include:
– Increased autonomy for long journeys
– Ability to handle steep slopes
– Resilience to large temperature variations
– Zero local emissions for improved air quality

The Importance of Ecosystem Collaboration
This project highlights the essential role of collaboration within the ecosystem of key stakeholders, working together to drive innovation in clean mobility solutions. By pooling resources, expertise, and technological innovations, this collaboration ensures the success of the project and promotes the development of sustainable, efficient, and scalable hydrogen mobility solutions tailored to the specific challenges of alpine regions.
