The Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) plays a key role in monitoring and ensuring water quality in Austria. Their work includes monitoring bathing and drinking water, tracking infectious diseases, and assessing environmental risks, all to protect public health and ecosystems. With expertise in food safety, human and veterinary health, and environmental monitoring, AGES helps prevent and manage risks that affect humans, animals, and plants.
AGES in DiMark
In DiMark, AGES will provide essential data and help test, validate, and apply innovative solutions for better freshwater management.
AGES will integrate ongoing water sampling efforts in key bathing areas across Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland. They collaborate with:
- Decision-makers (State Department of Lower Austria)
- SMEs (DWS Hydro-Ökologie)
- Government agencies (Federal Agency for Water Management – BAW Scharfling)
Together, they work to improve water safety and support policymaking.
By combining scientific expertise with real-world data, AGES is helping DiMark create smarter, more effective tools for managing Alpine lakes. Their work supports DiMark’s mission to improve water quality, strengthen disaster response, and promote sustainable lake management in the Alpine region. —benefiting both people and nature.
