Meet Our Project Partners: NIB
As part of our “Meet Our Project Partners” and “Discover Our Key Lakes” series, we’ll post twice a month to introduce one of our project partners and the Alpine lake they are working on within the DiMark project.
These updates will highlight their role in DiMark’s mission to provide innovative water monitoring and early warning systems to combat tourism and eutrophication pressures on Alpine lakes.
The first project partner to be introduced and its work on Lake Bled is the National Institute of Biology (NIB), the lead partner of this project.
About NIB:
Founded in 1960, the National Institute of Biology (Nacionalni inštitut za biologijo, NIB) is Slovenia’s largest independent Public Research Institution for Life Sciences. Specializing in biotechnology, biophysics, and ecotoxicology, NIB also strongly focuses on water ecosystems, particularly cyanobacteria and algal blooms.
NIB’s Role in DiMark:
NIB leads DiMark’s activities in water quality analysis and communication, ensuring that project outcomes effectively reach policy stakeholders and the public. Their expertise in studying cyanobacteria and algae is essential in effectively addressing the rising water eutrophication and cyanobacterial blooms.
Coming Soon: Discover our Key Lakes: Lake Bled
In the coming days, we’ll dive into one of DiMark’s target lakes, Lake Bled.
