đ September 22, Montafon, Austria: AlpTextyles exhibition + farm & museum tour
⨠Thank you for visiting! Through project partner Stand Montafon last week we participated in the 9th edition of the Septimo Cultural Festival in Montafon, a biennial celebration of culture, art, and heritage in the Montafon Valley. This year, the festival focused on Women in Montafon, exploring their stories through music, art, and literature while spanning topics from history to contemporary social questions.
đ¨ AlpTextyles was a featured highlight of the festival, merging textile cultural heritage with modern fashion. Among the activities was a guided tour at the Montafon Local History Museum to discover the ongoing âWell Wool – Textile Cultural Heritage and Contemporary Fashionâ exhibition. It was a chance to discover the wool from the Montafon stone sheep and how it is inspiring new creations by young designers from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
đ There were also tours of local stone sheep farms â an opportunity to gain fascinating insights into farm life and learn about sheep farming, wool processing, and meat marketing â and to the Montafoner Heimatmuseum in Schruns, offering a chance to dive into the history of wool production and processing in Montafon and admire the impressive works of young designers. As part of their master’s theses at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, they have created new designs from the so-called Montafon Tweed, made from the wool of stone sheep.
⨠Visitors also had the chance to tour local stone sheep farms, where they could gain fascinating insights into farm life and learn about sheep farming, wool processing, and meat marketing. Another visit was to the Montafoner Heimatmuseum in Schruns, where guests explored the history of wool production and processing in Montafon and admire the impressive works of young designers. As part of their masterâs projects at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, these designers created new pieces using Montafon Tweed, made from the wool of stone sheep.
