In a groundbreaking initiative led by the AMETHyST Project Partners from APE FVG, a significant step has been taken towards revolutionizing snow grooming technology. The project, based in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, aims to decarbonize the winter tourism sector, with a particular focus on the Zoncolan ski resort.
Currently, the resort benefits from renewable energy sources, primarily through the SECAB cooperative’s utilization of local hydro-power. However, the operation of snow groomers still relies on fossil fuels. To address this, the project seeks to introduce green hydrogen as an alternative fuel source, produced and distributed within the Alto Bût alpine valley.
Collaborating with Francesco Macoratti, the technical manager of snow groomers at PromoTurismoFVG, an associated partner of the project, the groundwork has been laid for a comprehensive feasibility study. This study will explore the technical and economic viability of establishing a refueling station to support hydrogen-powered snow groomers.
The potential impact of this initiative is significant, not only in reducing carbon emissions but also in showcasing the viability of green hydrogen technology in niche sectors like winter tourism. As the pilot project progresses, it promises to pave the way for further innovations within the AMETHyST framework. Stay tuned to witness the exciting developments ahead.
