On Saturday December 14th, in Italy, at the headquarters of the Municipality of Carmignano, very close to Prato city, the Municipality of Chivasso proudly received the first prize “Virtuous Municipalities 2024”, in the “Land Management” category, rewarding its unconventional experience in the application, within the ongoing revision of the Municipal Regulatory Master Plan, of an innovative methodology capable of identifying the urban areas with the greatest climate vulnerability level.
The cutting-edge methodological approach adopted by Chivasso was developed by iiSBE Italia R&D, in the context of the Interreg Alpine Space Project ADAPTNOW https://www.alpine-space.eu/project/adaptnow/ .
The methodology allows to develop a climate risk map that highlights the urban areas with the greatest vulnerability, with respect to which it is possible to plan adaptation strategies to prevent/limit the risks related to climate change. Quantitative indicators, selected on the basis of the climate risk considered, make it possible to tangibly assess the benefits of the adaptation measures introduced in the micro-urban area and their monitoring over time. The methodology is applicable to any urban context and the results it generates are objective.
May the pioneering experience of the Municipality of Chivasso be the forerunner in the introduction of adaptation measures in the Master Regulatory Plan for all municipalities!
